Inspired by the fishing village of the same name, Grand Isle is a classic, casual eatery featuring fresh seafood, down-home favorites and the self-proclaimed coldest beer in town. It’s a throwback to the day of great fare that’s classically and lovingly prepared, where customers enjoy authentic Louisiana and home-style cooking served with one-of-a-kind New Orleans hospitality. The restaurant development was led by a partnership between New Orleans chef Joel Dondis and Harrah’s, Inc. and is located on Convention Center Boulevard and Fulton Street in downtown New Orleans.
Trumpet was retained early in the concept development process to create the comprehensive visual identity for the restaurant. Our process considered all possibilities for meaningful points of connection with customers and partners including trademark, signage and menu design as well as details such as napkins, placemats, water carafes and merchandise.
The resulting image communicates quality and craftsmanship, with a slightly nostalgic nod to the roots of the restaurant concept. The trademark is classic yet effective in a contemporary context, while the signage incorporates materials and scale that speak to a regard for bygone artisanship (complete with flapping neon fish tail). The remaining design elements collectively and appropriately support the brand experience with visual cues that contribute to an atmosphere where the details are considered. Because you are where you eat.
