C1TY:
After Hurricane Katrina, feelings of anger and helplessness ran deep in the previously politically disengaged population of New Orleans. Citizens who wanted to contribute to the recovery did not know how to respond to failures of leadership or get involved in solutions.
Trumpet created C1TY as a means to encourage civic participation and serve as a guide to the many upstart grassroots organizations in the area. In our effort, the ubiquitous waterline left on structures throughout the city became the measurement of the many things we’d “had it up to here with,” including social ills, political patronage and lack of effective leadership.
Meaningful connection points were created using wild postings, print, t-shirts, video and interactive. Most importantly, the effort resulted in positive citizen engagement across broad population segments. It also was honored with a national Gold ADDY in 2007 – one of only 137 awards given nationwide.
